New PS3 Slim removes ‘Install Other OS’

Ugh….I kinda get this, but this was/is an awesome feature to have on the console….I guess after research they found this wasn’t being used by many or the Linux distribution wasn’t updated to accommodate the new hardware….so guess it got the chopping block, at least according to the UK press release.

Removal of “Install Other OS” feature

The new PS3 system will focus on delivering games and other entertainment content, and users will not be able to install other Operating Systems to the new PS3 system.

PS3 Updates hardware and software

PS3 Slim

Sony has finally confirmed a LOT of the rumors that were flying around and there is now a PS3 Slim and Firmware 3.0.  The price point of the PS3 Slim is $299.99 with 120GB hard disk.  That is totally awesome, tempting to buy a second one just so I can play my Blue-Ray movies in another room in the house.   Firmware 3.0 looks pretty cool, I like the animated wallpaper and I certainly like the way they updated the upper corner to include more information.  I hope there are some extra little bonuses that they didn’t mention, but for some reason I am a little doubtful.  I for one would like to see some MKV support and would like to see some expansion of the chat system.  I welcome any software update they do, seems a little weak, but that hardware update and price drop is a very welcome sight!  Hopefully they can get more development and heck more exclusives, after all, I think most of us pick up one of these for a little gaming action and well that certainly doesn’t seem to have a lot of focus like it should.

Wolverine (Video Game)

This was actually a really good game for a cross-over, it has been out for quiet awhile now, but I found that I got stuck on the very last battle (on hard) with Weapon 11Weapon 11 and seemed to constantly have an unlucky streak with him.  I however (last night) at complete random decided to pop the disk in and replay some of the game and on my very first run at him, I killed him without any issue.  I have to say that the laser he shoots almost makes you feel ripped off, I could still remember being frustrated with him last time I played.  So I’m glad I beat him and will probably never attempt to do that again.  But was one of those particular things that was satisfying after I watched his head get cut off and the chime of the trophy being received.  If you haven’t played this game, probably can get it cheap or it could make a great rental.  I grew up with the cartoons at Saturday and have many comics and I was very pleased to see the alternate costumes in the game (unlockable of course).

FINALLY

Get your Portable ID!

PS3 Update to Playstation.com

OMG, according to Joystiq there is an update coming this week to the Portable ID…..it is about freak’n time. :D   I actually was wishing this would occur and blogged about it previously and wishing the UK’s version was here.  Very glad to hear this is coming…..add a crap load of Home rewards or tie them to the trophies and then I think we’ll finally be getting somewhere.  Happy to see this coming.

UK PSN’s Gamer Card

Why don’t we have this in the North America Region? This has been available to the UK for a LONG time now, why can’t they just duplicate this feature???  The Gamer Card in the U.S. sucks.

PS3 Home Ghostbusters: On Location

Ghostbusters On LocationI don’t really use the PS3’s Home very often, just on occasion I will log in and check out some of the new content they add.  I still think for as much time that has gone by, PS3 Home is missing a lot of stuff and missed the mark on a lot of features and content.  I actually purchased my first thing from Home which was the Ghostbuster’s Firehouse called “On Location”.  It didn’t feel like as near a rip-off as some things, since you can control Slimer, get into Ecto-1 (which you can pop the hood and truck and all doors).  The siren is a little lame and very short.  After picking up the premium place, I started adding the content that I had from RE5 to many other games I’ve played.  I discovered fairly quickly that there is a furniture limit in Home that is set to 50 items (no matter the size).  So basically, 50 items in the little apartment wasn’t really enough, but a 3 floor pad with crap loads of space and 50 item limit, well I know its a beta and I know it has to have a limit in regards to the social platform, but that sucks for private rooms.  Hope they change that, but odds are, that will be updated in like another 2 years.  Home was one of those things that I could see the potential in, but on the other hand the development of this service has really been extremely slow and well the hype died with it after 2+ years of waiting for it.  I enjoyed the couple minutes of running around in the Ghostbuster’s Firehouse and checking it out, but the lack of ability to add much content, no trophy rooms still, little support for Game Launching, its still got a long way to go and it is totally understandable that it is still a “Beta”.  Also, where are the picture frames, TVs, etc?  I think I could almost make this post a rant about Home, but I think its on the border of that already. :D

Revisit to LittleBigPlanet

LittleBigPlanetMy daughter absolutely loves this game, which I picked up on the release date and played through and spent some time playing and would periodically play it when my daughter would request. Lately, I’ve been replaying a lot of the games I currently own. I am two trophies away from the Platinum on this game (HEART ME PLEASE) and have to say that this game has really been enjoyable and the community has tons more content, very creative stuff like Contra and Spong Bob for example. Thought I would give LBP some perks……especially since I got absorbed into it this weekend. Forgot how fun the MGS pack was too…..good stuff…..if you’ve been living under a rock, well you should probably just stay there….Also would be awesome if they release some more ‘official’ levels sometime soon, maybe a new planet and a new batch of trophies.

PS3 Media Server

If you are like me and have a PS3 and have multiple OS(s) in the house, then odds are you would probably like to have something you could stream some content, like freaking MKV files for example, to the PS3.  I naturally also wanted to have an application that would support Transcoding, this feature is extremely helpful.  There are many applications that are available, and this one as many of the others has it’s limitations.  One thing that I can say it is one of the better applications available for OS X.  I can’t say its 100%, still would be great to have some support for iPhoto Library and ITunes Library, (which there are applications available with this feature).  This is a fairly new application, so it is pretty solid for being in its early stages, I’ve had it since its launch day and so far it has worked very well on all three operating systems.  If you are a Windows user, there is also the option of Nero, which I have used and works fairly well.  Check it out for yourself and see what you think, plus I always take recommendations too:  PS3 Media Server

Battlefield 1943 (PS3)

bf1943

In what little spare time I get, I am actually getting higher in the ranks of the game….shouldn’t be long, almost a “General” and then off to another game…

After finally getting the Platnium trophy in Resident Evil 5, which it did take awhile, my conclusion is I really hate that 2-3 Boss…..was so lame on professional.

If you don’t have BF1943, its def worth checking it out, especially if you liked the original 1942 series….
